Will Luton be on lockdown before Christmas as Omicron cases spike?

As per yesterday, there were 448confirmed cases of Omicron in the UK there were 448 Omicron new cases 

Three areas in Bedfordshire- Luton, Bedford, and Central Bedfordshire, are now been considered as Covid ‘hotspot’, according to the latest weekly statistics published by Covid government figures

A Central Bedfordshire Council spokesperson confirmed yesterday suspected Omicron cases and neighbouring local authorities. And Covid-19 cases have reached a record high in there. The first case of the Omicron Covid variant found in a borough has been linked to “international travel”.

One case of the new variant linked to the travel has been identified in Bedford. Bedford Borough Council‘s director of public health, Vicky Head, said “rapid action” had been taken by the local contact tracing team after the case was discovered in the area.

In Luton, the director of public health, Sally Cartwright calls for people to come forward for their vaccines and to be extra vigilant in light of the emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid and new rules coming into place.

 Cllr Khtija Malik Portfolio holder for Public Health said “We want families to enjoy the Christmas holiday this year but safely, and it is so important that everyone gets vaccinated, to protect the whole community.. But, “We must not forget the basics to keep safe, it is really important that people keep social contact with those they do not live with to a minimum. If you are meeting inside, ensure that rooms are well ventilated and you take a COVID-19 test if you are going to places where people gather.”
